actually, i really have no idea if i'm supposed to do the old man research thingy. i found out that there's another one near the back of his notes: Argue a case for Singapore that it has an optimum population.

i dont really want to argue. i'm a STUDENT, not a lawyer. jeez. but at least i did the Bangladesh one already, even if i'm not required to. :s

later i found out from Clara that i didnt even have to do ANY of the essays. instead we have to do Evaluate the validity of Malthus' theory in light of today's conditions.

old man is mad. seriously.

and speaking of hw, i used to think that my life would be so much better if i'd taken H2 maths instead of H2 geog. but, looking at the functions tutorial that we're supposed to do over the holidays yesterday, i have changed my mind. I HATE FUNCTIONS. seriously, in A maths functions was one of the easier topics you know. but now, the functions topic for H1 and H2 is the same.

if i wanted to do H2 topics i would've taken H2 right!?!?!?!?!? differentiation is the best, it has no change. :D

i would honestly rather do 3 of old man's research essays than 3 function questions. i guess i am a true blue arts student. anything H2 science will just kill me. taking H1 bio during 1st 3 mths was already tough enough.

I LOVE MATHS I LOVE MATHS I LOVE MATHS.

must try to psycho myself ma. HELLO is there any KIND AND EXTREMELY PATIENT soul out there who is willing to tutor me in maths, for free????

i am being serious here. i do not wish to fail maths, esp when i've taken A maths. that'll be like such a failure you know.

i realized that up until now this whole post has been either abt maths or geog. i shall change the subject now.

Parents Ang were having a day off on Thursday cos it's Hari Raya or something. and Father Ang went, "later let's go Christmas shopping!!"

and i said, "shop for whose presents?"
and he said, "for you all lor!"
and i went, "where got ppl ask that person to go Christmas shopping for that person one???"

guess where we went.

JB.

luckily there were no queues, i hate queues. and because Father Ang kept rushing me, i had to bathe in cold water. i hate bathing in cold water.

anyway. we headed off to Father Ang friend Peter Wee's [aka Xerxes Wee's father, yes my drum major aka the guy that always makes me laugh in band for no reason] house cos he knew how to get to places in JB. they have a really really cute grey little kitten called Shadow.

she looks like Cadbury here:
and she looks like Strudel here:

so we went off to JB at around 4+ and to this quite rundown shopping centre where we bought DVDs and Sisters Ang bought some clothes. the stuff in Malaysia isnt really that cheap you know! some more expensive than Singapore sia. i havent been to Malaysia since 2004 and even that was at a kelong. :s

after walking around that shopping centre we went off to Delta Square to have dinner. and took some pictures too.

before dinner:

HAHA this is my favourite photo ok. i know i look like a ghost and i intended to look like one. SUCCESS! :D

had a rather sumptous dinner. the satay there was definitely better than Singapore's.

while waiting in the car for Father Ang and Peter Wee. dont know where they disappeared to.:

haha, making funny faces are better than taking boring smiley photos. and i did not curl/perm/whatever it is that ppl do to their hair nowadays my hair ok. i dont know why it looks so wavy.

and after dinner we went off to City Square where i finally got a top! but it was closing already so didnt get to walk around much. but we did take some photos [again]!

Maxine Ang said, "tallest to shortest." -_-" har har, not funny.

finally got home at around midnight. Maxine Ang brought back 2 pairs of mannequin legs she found at the lift of the rundown shopping centre and even the Customs Officer laughed when he saw it in the car boot.

JB's roads were all lined with private houses, and that made me think of Jian Wen, cos he lives in JB. i remember when he told me he lived in JB and i didnt believe him. and when i called him a rich kid cos he told me he lived in a terrace and he told me a matter-of-factly, "most of the ppl living in Malaysia live in private housing." and he was the only person--dont say guys only lah, say PERSON ok--who said, "i think girls that play soccer are damn cool."

ok i admit it i kinda miss him lah. 1st 3 mths with him was hilarious. on the 1st day he looked damn moody and grouchy and later he explained cos he had to wake up so early to come across the causeway to get to NY, which was why even though he got really good grades he still chose to go to Innova. he is one of the nicest guys i know [although not as nice as Berd or Wilson or Lau Lau of course], but he didnt get an award cos he always teased me just cos i told him Darshini thought i looked like i played tennis. in a good way of course. but i always laughed at him back when he laughed cos the way he laughed was really damn funny.

anyway i think Malaysian guys are generally better looking than Singaporean guys.

okok moving on.

it was also Connie's birthday on Thursday. so, a paragraph for her as well. although i know she wouldnt read this cos all she does when she comes online is to play dotA or Maple or some other online game, i still will do it.

Connie, i've known you the longest other than Shih Yann cos in sec 1 it was always the 3 of us at first. but somehow, over the yrs we grew apart. on the surface it seems like both of us has the most in common and i'm already considered the closest to you, but somehow there has always been something missing. i guess it happened in sec 2 when you always seemed to want to choose to be with your Other Friend, rather than us. you had more in common with her, i guess. but it's all right, we still love you! :D happy belated 17th birthday! :)

anyway. Friday was Back To Band day. i didnt know there was this gift exchange thingy and me and Shih Yann didnt buy anything for the juniors. haha.

speaking of this SHIH YANN. the other day told her 12.30 meet, she 12.30 leave her house. Friday told her 10.30 meet, guess what time she finally arrived?

11.15.

i was PUNCTUAL and she made me wait for 45 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hate it when ppl are late for more than 10 mins. but i couldnt stay angry for long at LIM SHIH YANN cos she kept whining and whining and if i continued being angry i'd have to put up with her endless whining.

HAHA ok lah she also gave me this frm Genting:some rabbit thingy, it looks damn freaky at first.

met Joline, Zhi Jie, Priscilla, Yong Jin and--gasp!--Chee Boon. i nvr thought Chee Boon would go back ok. i thought he would abandon his percussion section, nvr to return. haha i'm being dramatic here. anyway this shows that Chee Boon is not so heartless after all. anyway he is damn tall now.

i didnt recognize half the faces in the band room ok. and the band seems damn slack now, like very little ppl turned up. i dont know if Ong is still as particular abt attendance as last time though, cos the ppl who didnt turn up would be in deep shit if he was.

i was quite hesitant abt going back cos i couldnt bear to see the state my horn is in now. my dearest horn which i painstakingly polished and oiled-each time whenever i went back the juniors would bang each other's horns at least once, which would leave a dent or a scratch on the horn. but this time at least they were seated one seat apart like in the SYF in 2005.

i kinda miss the band lah. the sectionals, the breaks, the camps, the practices. esp being the sectional leader, and ordering Bernard around, haha. but of course, there are bad memories like being the bloody treasurer--i swear, being a treasurer has got to be one of the worst jobs ever--where i literally had to be like a loanshark and go around hounding ppl who didnt wanna pay up, esp those two frm percussion, whose names shall not be mentioned. but i had my sweet revenge during fall-ins, when i could make them do push-ups. i've nvr really figured out if we were a military or a symphonic band. and i've always regretted not trying out for band major--not that i would have been better than Xerxes. but still. :(

the best memory of band has got to be the concert in NY in 2005. the horn had lots of solos and important parts. :) they're gonna hold another one next yr in NY again. :D

if i could, i would choose to relive those yrs in the band although there were bad memories too like with Quek during the orientation blah blah. but i know the band wouldnt be the same if i didnt have these ppl with me:

Linda for being a good senior and SL before me. Yi Ting for teaching me the ways of being a loanshark. Shu Ling for being easy to bully--as you can see frm the above photo. Xerxes for always making me laugh whenever he sat next to me cos the saxaphones mostly was next to the horns. Zhi Jie for being a good QM although he was irritating sometimes. :s Zul for always doing funny imitations and making ppl laugh during fall-ins and being a good drum major and always letting me threaten to kick his butt. Chee Boon for being the only other person in band in the same class as me in sec 2 so we could always ask each other if we were going for band, and for accepting my punishments to his entire sections without [much] complaining. Li Zhen, Joline and Shih Yann--need i say more?

i didnt miss out anyone did i. hopefully not.

whenever i'm abt to die frm running on the field/stairs or the sun is abt the melt the skin off my face, sometimes i would ask myself what i was doing there, when i could have been in an air-conditioned room. going through the B flat concert, E flat concert, and concert F.

sometimes i even wonder, why didnt i join a CCA which gained recognition frm the college, which i had experience in and liked and was familiar with and quite good at, which had a conductor--a person who could guide us along, which--most importantly--had funding frm the college so we wouldnt be struggling so much. instead, i joined a CCA an interest group which i had absolutely no idea abt and wasnt even sure i would like, which made me feel like a failure half of the time, which the college looks down upon so they dont even bother giving us any funds. it's like they want us to break down.

was it just because of my braces? because playing the horn with braces would be painful? would the pain be so unbearable? would be worse than say--oh, i dont know--spraining your ankle TWICE? at band, at most you'd get ulcers. but at soccer--heatstroke, pulled muscles/ligaments, sprained ankles, twisted knees, broken wrists--you name it, we most probably could get it.

after twisting my ankle twice already, i've found i have the phobia of twisting it again. passing balls, doing drills--it's all right. but when playing 2 sides--there's something pulling me back when i get tackled or when i tackle someone. my ankle feels so vulnerable now.

but no, strangely, i dont regret joining soccer. because if i didnt, i probably wouldnt be able to pass my 2.4--i barely passed in sec 4 [that's a PASS, not even a silver ok]. if someone had told me that i had to run 5 or even THREE rounds twice a week in the past, i would've ignored the person or even thought he/she was mad. but now, even 5 rounds seems little as compared to EIGHT rounds which my 2 dear leaders seem to want us to achieve. and because if i didnt, i would've continued to think that soccer was just an aimless sport which consisted of 20 men/women chasing after 1 ball. because if i didnt, i wouldnt have known how much effort sportsmen put into their sport. because if i didnt, life in NY would be different, maybe not as fun. because i wouldnt have known some of the fun-nest ppl around:

Jia Yu and Sarah would probably just be tribe members to me frm O2 [although Sarah's not really counted now]. i would've continued to assume Madeleine was as buay song as she looks and i would've continued not liking her [as she didnt like me at first too haha]. Jia Le would still be known as the Panda Punk Star girl ["what do pandas have to do with punk stars??" i once asked Jia Ru in astonishment. she laughed in my face.]. Hui Ting would just be that short bung girl i see around sch [sorry ah]. and i probably wouldnt even have noticed the rest of the ppl.

i probably also wouldnt have noticed the joys [ugh] of being the QM, the responsibilities. i guess Zhi Jie's job then and my job now doesnt really have much difference, except he was in charge of oils and instruments and i was in charge of balls and cones. being the QM has definitely taught me a lot about responsibility, including dragging myself out of bed in the morning to pass Eunice the keys so the seniors could train, making sure the keys were in good hands, taking care of the balls, making sure none was missing.

so even if the college looks down on us and refuses to fund us, i dont really care. we've come this far. running on zero funds and the goodwill of other CCAs is already an achievement in itself. struggling as a team makes us bonded as a team.

and what doesnt kill us, makes us stronger. :)
